Northern Norway Adventure (Custom Luxury)

Experience the Raw Beauty of Northern Norway

Explore the Northern Lights, sail the coast of Norway and absorb the raw beauty of  Northern Norway in luxury. Embrace a host of winter activities from the arctic hub of Kirkenes with a private guide leading you through the area.

Kirkenes

Start your trip in Kirkenes, where you’ll stay in a lovely four-star hotel. Opt into a guided snowmobile tour in search of the Northern Lights, or get even more adventurous and explore the Northern Lights by husky! Kirkenes is a famous port town on the Northern coast of Norway, where you’ll have a tour guide to provide history, insight and recommendations throughout your trip.

Highlights in the area include the King Crab Safari, where a guide will help you snowmobile to the best spots, cut through the ice, pull up the traps and enjoy freshly caught King Crab for lunch! Or opt for a guided snowshoeing excursion, a private driven tour to see the Northern Lights or ice fishing with a local expert. Kirkenes is a hotspot for winter exploration and outdoor excursions. At night, snuggle up to the SnowBar at the SnowHotel Kirkenes, before enjoying a three-course meal by a roaring fire. You can make the short walk to the nearby Reindeer Park as well.

Tromsø

You can opt in for an overnight cruise to Tromsø. The scenic cruise will have you crossing Varangerfjord, Norway’s only east-facing fjord and a fabled bird-watching site. Then, you’ll arrive in Vardø, the easternmost point of the country. Next the ship will round the Varanger Peninsula, where archaeologists excavated a community believed to date from 9,000 BC. In the evening, the ship calls at Båtsfjord, which also boasts the remains of a Stone Age settlement, and Berlevåg. Keep an eye open for Tanahorn Mountain, which long ago was a Sámi sacrifice site.

Continue your winter exploration in Tromsø, where a private guide will help you experience the city. Take in the iconic Arctic Cathedral, which holds court in the middle of this urban city nearly 225 miles above the Arctic Circle. Don’t miss other city highlights such as the Polaria (an Arctic aquarium right on the waterfront), Fjellheisen (an aerial tramway that takes you to the top of Storsteinen Mountain), as well as a range of museums like The Polar Museum, dedicated to scientific, cultural, and archaeological exhibits.

A night under the Northern Lights with the Sámi

Though the weather may be cold in the winter, it’s usually milder here than in other Arctic locations due to the Gulf Stream. Opt in for a traditional Sámi reindeer excursion, an experience few people in the world ever have! Spend an evening feeding the reindeer at a Sámi camp, along with a traditional Sámi dinner underneath the Northern Lights. For about five hours you’ll walk the reindeer camp: feed the wild reindeer, gather at the main lavvu (a temporary Sámi dwelling similar to a Native American tipi) for a traditional three-course dinner and joik (Sámi storytelling and song), and search for the Northern Lights outside.

This will be a winter experience like you’ve never had before! Let our team of trip planners build the perfect custom travel experience for you.
